Academic Curriculum

One of the great advantages of being an independent school is that Blanchelande is not tied to the constraints of the National Curriculum. Naturally it forms the basis of our teaching and learning in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics and science which are nationally assessed at age 11. The majority of morning sessions are devoted to the development of these key skills.

Other subjects covered  include history, geography, technology, I.T. and French, the latter taught  throughout the Infant and Junior Departments. These subjects tend to be taught through a series of broader topics to provide context and make the content more relevant.

Our flexibility allows us to devote extra time to other curriculum subjects, using specialist teachers, in areas such as R.E., music, art and P.E.  Use of the senior school facilities for P.E., art and food technology enhance the learning of our younger students.
