Royal Navy Helicopter visit
It’s not every day that the Royal Navy drop in to say hello, but that’s exactly what happened recently (June 2009). A Royal Navy Sea King from 771 Squadron landed in the school playing field for a special visit. The helicopter flew from RNAS Culdrose as part of a training exercise with the local Guernsey lifeboat crew.
Girls from all parts of the school gathered excitedly to welcome senior pilot Debdash Bhattacharya and his crew to the school.
The Sea king circled the field before positioning itself to land. The down draft caught everyone by surprise as lunch boxes and hats went flying!
The school principal, Lesley Le Page, welcomes Lt Phillip Gamble.
The girls waste no time in having a look around the helicopter. The Sea King is sporting its new livery to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm.
The crew quickly get to know the girls spending an informative couple of hours explaining how the helicopter works.
Mrs Davey (Year 5) tries on a flight helmet much to the amusement of her class.
The girls wave goodbye to the crew of the Royal Navy Sea King.
A big thank you to Senior Lt Bhattacharya and his crew, the 771 Squadron, and Cable and Wireless for organising a great day.
