Senior Admissions

We welcome students into our Primary or Senior school. An additional, third form is added at Year 7 at which point our Primary years are blended with new joiners. Our senior cohorts have around sixty students with roughly equal numbers of boys and girls.

Open Day

There is no better opportunity to see the whole school in action than at our annual College Open day which takes place on the last Saturday of September each year. You will be offered a tour to meet your interests, led by one of our senior school students.

Entry into the senior school (Year 7)

Pupils in Blanchelande’s Junior School transfer automatically from Year 6 into Year 7, with no additional assessment required. Pupils from other schools are strongly advised to register in advance of the Michaelmas Term of Year 6 so that they are able to attend our Assessment Morning which takes place on a Saturday morning in October/November of the final year in Primary School.

The Blanchelande Assessment Morning is designed to be relaxed, welcoming and fun – with breakfast on arrival, a Science experiment, sports activity and hot chocolate! The children barely notice that there are also short Maths and English papers.

External applicants are advised to register as early as possible as places for Year 7 are generally oversubscribed and the date of registration is an important factor in obtaining an offer..

Visits at other times of the year for Year 7 and other year groups

We also welcome families who wish to visit the school at any point of the academic year. By arrangement with the Registrar, who will be able to advise you by phone/email on the availability of places in your child’s year group, the Principal will meet with you and your child to introduce you to the College and answer any questions, followed by a tour.

Taster Day and Assessment

Students hoping to join our senior department are invited for a free taster day prior to a place being offered (this does not apply if the student has attended our Assessment Morning for Year 7 entry). This allows the students to become familiar with the College and for the teaching team to meet them. Alongside attending lessons, applicants will take written and online (CAT) assessments. Feedback from the day will be shared with parents. Please note that an offer can only be made to families once they have completed the registration process.
