Learning Support

At Blanchelande College, every student is a hero on their own unique journey. The Learning Support department works with parents and pupils to ensure that effective individual learning plans are implemented so that pupils with additional needs are fully supported. Clear information sharing prior to joining is essential to ensure appropriate support is in place from the start.

The department comprises the Head of Learning Support (SENCO), an Assistant SENCO and a team of LSAs, who are all fully qualified. We also work with specialist external agencies who deliver interventions here at school.

The department coordinates a range of interventions, some of which are bespoke one-to-one lessons while others are paired or small group sessions focusing on a particular skill. Crucially, the department provides information, training and support to class and subject teachers on how to deliver differentiated learning support within lessons.

The department also coordinates access arrangements – following the JCQ guidelines – for internal and public examinations, and works closely with the Director of Studies and the Exams Officer. Please note that access arrangements must be established far in advance of public examinations to be admissible.

The Learning Support department runs a broad programme of interventions across all Phases of the College, including:

  • Fiddly Fingers (fine motor control)
  • Maths Club
  • Phonics Club
  • Attention Autism
  • Stretch and challenge
  • Integrated senior support
